Joanne Kathleen Rowling a grandi en Angleterre où elle est née en 1965. Elle commence à imaginer la saga Harry Potter dès la fin des années 90, après ses études de lettres. Si J.K. Rowling achève le premier tome de la série en 1993, Harry Potter à l’école des sorciers n’est publié qu’en 1997 par Bloomsburry en Angleterre, puis en 1999 par Gallimard en France. Les prix littéraires remis aux premiers tomes, et surtout le formidable bouche à oreille des cours de récréation font de Harry Potter un sorcier mondialement connu. Le septième et dernier volume de la série est paru en 2007. Auteur d’un phénomène éditorial inédit qui bouleverse tous les repères de la littérature jeunesse, JK Rowling a vu son œuvre récompensée par le Prix Andersen en 2010.
